Most folks don’t know much about what really happens behind closed doors at a dry cleaning facility, so let’s take a quick tour of the place.
Prestige Dry Cleaners does all their own cleaning and laundry work on site right at their Midvale dry cleaning facility. There we have a large variety of machines that extract dirt and press clothing. One of those machines is called a Washer-Extractor. This is a bulky looking oversized washing machine that will hold 160 pounds of clothing. We keep it busy too, washing your shirts, jeans, comforters, and the like.
Once your shirts and jeans are clean, they are pressed on specially designed forms that have been made to the shape of the garment. We have a curved form-board just for those shirt collars. That’s how we get them so perfect every time. We also have one just for jeans and pants. We can get flawless creases in any type of pants or jeans.
Two other valuable pieces of equipment that we use a lot at Prestige Dry Cleaners are the Hydrocarbon Machine and the Perc Machine. These are both utilized in the dry cleaning process. Garments are placed in a large drum and then the cleaning fluid, also known as “perc” is placed in the outter shell that holds the drum. As the drum agitates, the cleaning fluid passes through your garments picking up all dirt and grease on its way.
Once the garments are clean, they are spun just like in your washing machine, to remove most of the perc from the fabric. After a steam drying, which is also done inside this machine, your clothes are then deodorized which removes any lingering smells or traces of cleaning fluid.
After that, it’s just a matter of pressing each garment to where it’s perfect.
