Dry cleaning is unavoidable unless you want to wear any clothes which might be a health hazard. That’s why we constantly wear clothes to protect us and also we enjoy wearing different types of clothes. Something that we might not enjoy so much is cleaning our dirty clothes.

Somehow the constant burden and hassle to get stains out are worth the time spent to wear that sweater that is so comfortable. Since it is time consuming you want to make sure you use the appropriate methods to clean your clothing. First and foremost you want to read the labels. Labels will tell what kind of cleaning the fabric is required to have so it gets cleaned and also not ruined. Usually you can locate the label inside the fabric and has symbols and instructions to tell you exactly what the fabric needs to be cleaned.

For instance some clothes require it to be taken to a Utah dry cleaner and cannot be cleaned at home. Although there are special sheets that you put in a bag to treat those kind of clothes. The sheets are like a quick touch up but do not actually dry clean the clothes.

Before setting the washing to do its regular cycle, remember what kind of water temperature to set your wash too. It is important because the wrong type of clothes can either shrink, bleed out there natural color or wrinkle.

Now it is easy to see why so many problems can come up with all the different techniques to clean your clothes. Don’t let that be a problem and become some kind of guessing game. Prestige Cleaners are experts on guiding others with vital knowledge on how to clean their clothes. As a Salt Lake City dry cleaning company they also take care of any type of fabrics that might be stained or need cleaning, whether it be ink, coffee, egg, blood, chocolate, or red wine stains they have the tools to get it out.

Dry Cleaning Service Process

Published under Dry Cleaning on 03/04/2011

Finding the right Utah dry cleaners is very important.  You probably want a dry cleaner that provides great service, gets your clothes clean in a timely manner, offers great prices, and, of course, doesn’t lose your clothes.  Prestige Cleaners offers all this and more to their customers.  They offer a wide range of services that make dry cleaning more convenient.  Prestige Cleaners also uses a unique system that guarantees your clothes will never get lost.  Here’s a quick overview of how their dry cleaning process works.

Drop Off

The first step is to drop of your clothes at Prestige Cleaners.  You can always do it the traditional way and drive to the cleaners.  However, they offer all their customers another option.  Prestige Cleaners will pick up your clothing at your house for free.  It’s the first part of their complimentary pick-up and delivery dry cleaning service.  This service makes it easy for you to get your clothes dry cleaned without interrupting your daily schedule.

Clothing Check In

Prestige Cleaners uses a yellow bag service that issues a yellow bag to each customer.  This bag features a unique barcode for each customer.  If the bag of clothing is picked up the barcode is scanned right away.  This lets the system know that the clothes have been picked up.  Once the bag reaches the store the barcode is scanned again, which tells the system that clothing is at the Utah dry cleaning store and ready to be cleaned.

Tracking Clothing

Every piece of clothing that enters the store gets a very small barcode heat sealed to it.  This barcode acts like the one on the yellow bag.  It tells the system where the piece of clothing is at all times.  After the barcode is put on the piece of clothing is ready to be cleaned.  Then, the clothing is cleaned and pressed at Prestige Cleaners by experience workers.

When the piece of clothing is clean the barcode is scanned to tell the system that the clothing is cleaned.  Then the clothing is placed on a numbered conveyor.  The system is able to track the piece of clothing the whole time, so a worker will know where it is when you come to pick it up or have it dropped off.

Invoicing

The system conveniently takes care of invoicing as well.  When the last piece of your order is cleaned and scanned an invoice prints out.  The invoice is then put on the last item.

Gathering the Order

The next step is for the system to automatically get your order together.  It will bring all the pieces together and then wrap it in protective plastic.  Once the order is all together it is scanned and put on a different numbered conveyer to continue tracking your order until it leaves the dry cleaners.

Delivery

The final step in Prestige Cleaner’s sophisticated system is the delivery.  The system will first gather all the orders that are ready to be delivered, so the driver can easily transfer them to the truck.  Then the delivery driver will scan the bag when it’s delivered to your home.

Best Dry Cleaners Salt Lake City Has to Offer

Published under Dry Cleaning on 02/04/2011

Your clothing is an investment that you make in yourself, and as such, you are reluctant to entrust its care and safekeeping to just any dry cleaning service.  What you want is a dry cleaner with a reputation of providing quality services at affordable prices.  What you need is the best dry cleaners Salt Lake City has to offer.  So, what makes any service worthy of being crowned the best at anything?  Most would agree that would be, honesty and reliability.  They must have earned the trust of their customers by being straightforward and honest about what they can and cannot do, and provide a reliable service by delivering on their promises, and the best way to find this out is to ask for recommendations.

Think about it; at one time or another almost everyone uses a dry cleaner, and if it is an honest and reliable one, they tend to stick with them.  Ask your coworkers, business partners, friends, and family whom they use, what type of items they have cleaned, and why they use that particular dry cleaner.  For example, they may do a great job at removing grease stains from a coworker’s uniforms, ink from an associates dress shirt, wine stains from your neighbors favorite table linens, mothball odor from moms heirloom quilts, or keep your bosses leather luggage clean and supple. Once you have several recommendations, visit a few of them and personally speak to the owner or manager on duty.  If they are friendly and take the time to answer your questions, there is a good chance that they appreciate their customers.

Ask about their cleaning process; do they handle all of their dry-cleaning and laundering in-house, or do they outsource it to one of those larger impersonal bulk cleaners.  Also, ask about their tracking system.  An effective tracking system ensures that you get back what you dropped off.  This is an important factor, especially for frequent travelers who must adhere to a tight schedule.  Listen, when you need to board a flight, there is no time to run from store to store looking for a replacement suit jacket, because yours is either lost amongst a thousand others in some large outsourced dry cleaning warehouse, or possibly released to the wrong customer.  It just makes more sense to use Utah dry cleaners that employ an in-house, expert staff.

Perhaps, equally important is using one that offers pick-up and delivery service.  It saves time, which is definitely a bonus for parents on the go, hard-working entrepreneurs or business owners, as well as anyone with limited mobility.  It saves money in terms of fuel use, given that they are doing the traveling for you, and it saves aggravation by eliminating the need for you to wrestle bulky items, such as comforters, draperies, and luggage into the car to drop them off, and then lug them back to your home or business.  Speaking of pick-up and delivery service, only the best SLC dry cleaners offer it as a free service.  Consider it as a thank you gift for choosing to use them instead of their competition.

Another service that should be free is minor repairs.  If you are currently paying for this benefit, you are patronizing the wrong business.  Also, ask about turnaround time.  Most regular orders should take no longer than three days to complete, however, they should also offer same day service for those times when the unexpected pops up.  Although, this will add to the cost, it can be a lifesaver in certain situations.  Another convenience to look for is drive up service.  If you have ever sprained an ankle or have a limiting disability, you understand how important this can be.  One additional question to ask is whether, or not they offer shoe shinning and repair.  Most dry cleaners in Salt Lake City do not, but the best ones do.  When a single business can handle multiple tasks, it is definitely worth choosing, but in the end, the choice yours.  Take a risk by using some random dry cleaner, or choose to use the best dry cleaners Salt Lake City has to offer.

Salt Lake City Dry Cleaners – Save Money and Time

Published under Dry Cleaning on 02/02/2011

If you are trying to decide whether, or not Salt Lake City Dry Cleaners save time and money, allow me to help you a bit.  The easy answer is yes, dry cleaners save both time and money and the proof lies in the details.  Let us start by looking at clothing.  When we shop for clothing, we generally choose the highest quality pieces that are within our financial means.  That is because we know that they are designed to last at least a few years, maybe longer, and they can be expensive, especially when we are talking about a jacket or a 3-peice suit.  The fact is, we all need them and they must be cleaned properly if we want to keep them.

However, throw a wool sweater into your home washer and dryer and a shopping trip to replace it will usually follow.  It is just more cost effective to pay less than $10 to get it professionally cleaned, if you consider the cost of replacing it.  While on the subject of clothing, what about a traditional wedding dress that has been handed down from generation to generation.  A SLC dry cleaner can restore it, which means possibly saving thousands of dollars for a new one.

So, as you can see from these two examples, dry cleaning does save replacement costs, as well as the time it takes to run from store to store shopping for new clothes.  Nevertheless, that is not the only cost savings associated with dry cleaning; consider household items such as area rugs, and linens that need special care to keep them clean, fresh and crisp. Using an over-the-counter cleaner on a beautiful rug can cause the dyes to bleed, ruining the rugs value as well as its appearance.

Laundering linens in a home washer will cause them to lose their crisp texture, and they must be ironed.  In addition, scorching the fabric is a real possibility, and the more wrinkles they have, the more time it takes to smooth them out.  By the way, if you are thinking that starch will do the trick, the trick may be on you because starch, when used improperly will result in flaking and that means you have to rewash your linens.  It is simply more cost and time effective to entrust them to the care of a reputable dry cleaners.

Speaking of household items, what about those expensive down comforters that keep you warm during Utah’s frigid winters?  They are not only expensive; they must have the proper care to retain their shape and usability.  Many people have made the mistake of taking them to a laundromat, and washing them in one of those heavy-duty washers, which causes the down to become displaced.  The result is a lumpy, bumpy mess.  True, it is still a down comforter, but one that will no longer keep you as warm as it was designed to do.  You have once again lost time and money.  The time and fuel it cost to travel to and from the laundromat, the money you fed into the washer, and the expenses associated with replacing the comforter.  That adds up to considerably more than what it would have cost to have it cleaned at the professional dry cleaners, and they would have even picked it up, and delivered it right to your door.

Now we see that dry cleaning saves money and time on clothing and household items, but let us turn our attention to footwear.  Leather boots, for example, are a staple in Utah.  A good pair can be very expensive, so throwing them out due to a loosened heel, or a separating seam just does not make sense from a cost standpoint when an all-inclusive dry cleaning service can repair them at a fraction of the cost.  Not only that, you will get them back shined as well.  Believe me, restoring a boot cost much less than replacing them, and again, there is no need to waste time running from store to store to find a new pair.

Now, what about those do-it-yourself dry cleaning kits you see on super market shelves.  To start, they cost a little more than $10 each, but worse than that, read the fine print and you will find that they are not recommended for use on furs or fabrics, such as suede, leather, silk, velvet, or rayon.  In addition, it plainly states that it does not remove dust, dirt, or lint.  Now, that is a complete contradiction of terms if I ever heard one.  I mean, a dry cleaning kit not meant for dry-clean-only fabrics, it is simply a waste of time and money when you consider that those types of fabrics are why you would bother to buy it to begin with.  These are just some tips on how Salt Lake City dry cleaners save time and money.  Deciding to use them makes perfect sense.

The Whys and What of Dry Cleaning

Published under Dry Cleaning,Tips on 01/14/2011

We all want to look good, don’t we? And one important part of this is being dressed in beautiful clothes made with fine-looking (and often expensive) fabric such as silk and wool. But how do we take care of such fabrics that get dirty through normal wear, as well as occasional boo-boos such as wine spills or ink stains caused by a defective pen.

Wet cleaning vs. dry cleaning

Really, there are clothes that need special care. You see, it is not sensible to wet clean some clothes. By wet cleaning we mean hand-washing or dropping it onto the washing machine. Wet cleaning makes use of detergent soap and shampoo. And sometimes, some fabrics don’t react well to detergent, as there may be strong chemicals that can damage the textile. Other disadvantages of wet cleaning include the possibility of shrinkage, distortion, faded color and water marks. Also, some stains are not easily removed using wet cleaning or spot cleaning.

And this is where dry cleaning can help.  Dry cleaning helps to:

- Make the stains go away. Dry cleaning can do what wet cleaning can’t: it breaks down the oils and grease that cause the stains.

- Make your clothes last longer. The grime, grit and dirt in the clothes actually have an abrasive effect on the fiber, tearing down the fabric more quickly. Actually, dry cleaning can help make your clothes look like new! We must, however, remind you that some fabrics should be dry cleaned in moderation.

- Makes the clothes retain their brightness and color. Some fabrics are prone to fading and water marks when wet-cleaned. In contrast, dry cleaning protects the brightness, color, as well as softness of the fabrics.

- Wash hard-to-clean items. These include comforters, thick blankets, rugs and upholstery.

And of course, dry cleaning is convenient, as you can just go to your trusted dry cleaner (like Prestige Dry Cleaners) to do the job for you. Prestige Dry Cleaners has built a solid reputation as one of the top Utah dry cleaners.

When you look at the label of your clothes, you will usually find washing instructions, whether the clothes are machine washable, or “dry clean only”. Please note that dyes, fabric and materials will vary, so it is best that you test a portion of the cloth first before you have it washed or dry cleaned. For help in taking care of your clothes, take a look at this garment care guide from Prestige.

Here are some fabrics that are best dry-cleaned, and why:

Acetate or acetate polyester.  Best dry-cleaned. The fabric may shrink when ironed. But the dry cleaner should also know at what temperature the clothes will be cleaned without shrinking.

Linen. To maintain the fabric’s crispness and to ensure that it is creaseless, this is best dry cleaned. However, if you want some softness to the linen, you can also hand wash it.

Lyocell.  This can be machine washed or dry cleaner. When you iron this, make sure that the iron is only moderately warm.

Rayon. This material should be dry-cleaned, although it can also be hand washed using lukewarm water. Please note that “washable” rayon is not recommended for dry cleaning.

Silk. Have pure silk dry-cleaned to avoid distortion and water marks on the fabric. As with rayon, “washable” silk does not respond well to dry cleaning.

Cotton. Dress shirts made of cotton may be dry cleaned once in a while.

Wool and suits. For stains, you can spot clean with the use of a wet sponge. Best dry cleaned, but not too often to lengthen the life of these fabrics.

Aside from dry cleaning, Prestige Dry Cleaners has a list of other services to help you with your clothing needs. We have a pick-up and delivery service for convenient laundry cleaning. We also preserve wedding gowns and restore clothes that have been fire or water damaged.  Please visit us to ask about our other services.

Our prices are very affordable and our value-added services can actually help you save time and money.

In taking care of your clothes, it is best that you leave it to trusted SLC dry cleaning professionals who are committed in making sure that your clothes (particularly the expensive ones) look their best, longer. The Way We Wash

Published under Dry Cleaning on 01/12/2011

A Quick Look at Dry Cleaning

What is dry cleaning? Is it really different from the way you wash and dry your clothes at home?

You may ask yourself these questions as you look at some of your clothes that are marked “Dry Clean Only”. There is a reason why there is that label on your clothes. You can clean those clothes yourself but you may ruin your favourite suit or blouse. Don’t let this happen to you.

Dry cleaning is a process which makes use of specialized solvents to treat fabric, rather than the “normal” way we wash our clothes, with the use of water.  The process makes little or no use of water, hence, the name “dry cleaning”.  Don’t be confused with the name, though. The process is just as wet as normal washing; the difference is in what is used.

Dry Cleaning for Specific Fabrics

There are some types of fabric that simply do not react well when washed with detergent and water. These include fabrics like wool, rayon and silk, fabrics that are usually found in expensive garments such as suits and gowns.  What happens is that these fabrics have a tendency to shrink, fade in color or be disfigured when washed with soap and water.  Clothes made with rayon may be distorted when washed with water because it is made up of hydrophilic fibers, which attract water molecules and cause the fibers to expand. In short, you’ll be ruining a perfectly good blouse or suit if you ignore washing instructions on the label, particularly ones that say, “dry cleaning only”.

With the use of dry cleaning solvents (which are usually organic), these problems are avoided and the clothes are efficiently and effectively cleaned. The formula used (called perc) can dissolve oil and grease stains in a way that soap and water cannot.

The Dry Cleaning Process

When you give your clothes to the dry cleaner’s, they will usually take a close look at the label to determine the fiber content, as well as the care instructions. Then, the cleaner will check for stains. Any stains are spot-treated to loosen up the stains. Then, the clothes are placed in a dry-cleaning machine, where the clothes are soaked with perc. After this process, the solvent is drained and the clothes are dried with the use of warm air. This vaporizes the solvent so that there is very little of it left on the clothes.

When the “washing” is finished, the dry cleaner will press the garment using a steam press to restore the shape of the garment, which may have lost its shape due to normal wear and tear. The steam press will also take care of ironing out the creases of the garment, while replacing the creases that are actually part of the garment’s design.

With dry cleaning, you can make sure that your “dry-clean only” clothes are free of stains and creases. Dry cleaning also ensures that your clothes look almost “like new”.
